Today’s Food for Your Soul Law Of Love “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35) Do people see petty bickering among us as Christians? Do they see jealousy and division in our brotherhood? Or do they see that we are Jesus’ followers by our love for one another? The law of love hinges on loving God and our fellow man. That is the essence of God’s law. Today’s key verse comes right after the “new commandment” of Jesus: “That you love one anther, as i have loved you.” This command is new because the one in the Old Testament says, “You Shall Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Jesus does not tell us to love others merely as we love ourselves He calls us to love others as He loved us. What a high standard! Consider again these words from James 4:11: “Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.” (NOTE: Brother and Man, are not defined as male or female, nor Christian, Jew Or Sinner, But Rather as every soul on this earth, as we are all children of God, no matter if we are righteous or unrighteous. This is a huge misconception that people make when reading the bible.) To speak evil of someone is to slander him/her that is, to make degrading remarks about him/her in their absence. David took a strong stand against this. “Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.” Speaking about cynicism, Today we will consider what makes a cynical spirit particularly dangerous. It is that the cynic is often right. He believes in the accuracy of his analysis and the soundness of his judgement. Yet his attitude may be wrong – frightfully, pathetically wrong. But because he believes he is right, he never suspects how tragically cynical he is. Cynicism produces a sour, critical attitude. The remedy is to have a heart overflowing with love for others and gratitude to God. This kind of heart will fulfill the law of love. “God is just as interested in your brother’s salvation as he is in yours!” God Bless you, and remember to be kind, compassionate, caring and love one another as Jesus, loves you unconditionally!
