My niece Mackenzie has osteosarcoma just above her right knee. Update – 11.29.25 from my brother Jeff: We are so grateful to be able to report some good news about the clinical trial at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Her hemoglobin count, which was the only hurdle keeping Mackenzie from participating in the study was over an 11 after two blood transfusions, well above the required 9. Thank you so much for your prayers! We are only waiting on research funding that the research nurse needs to handle before we head back to Houston to start the trial, which could take a couple weeks. Here’s what we are grateful for after this trip to Houston (not including the fact that there are two Buc-ee’s on the way): 1. (This one’s HUGE!) There is no cancer in her lungs! There were two lymph nodes that lit up on the PET scan, but because their size was normal, it’s only something they will watch at this time. (Please pray for this.) 2. They will be using an MRI to do the regular monitoring as opposed to the PET scan. This will prevent her from being exposed to the enormous amount radiation from the PET/CT scan. 3. They will have another sarcoma surgeon review her scans to give us a second opinion. Other prayer requests: 1. For Mackenzie to mentally and emotionally accept the cancer isn’t gone; and to fight and be optimistic the Lord would heal her. 2. For the treatment to start quickly and that it would be very effective. 3. That there wouldn’t be any side effects to the medication. 4. For her to better sleep, increase of appetite, and to lessen the severe pain in her knee. Thanks for praying. It means a lot to me personally.
