August 12, 2017 at 1:43 amOn Dec 20,2016, my wife and I separated. We’d been in difficult times for several years. My wife had pleaded with me in every way imaginable for me to realize and appreciate the severity of our situation. But for reasons I still do not fully understand, I simply was not able to hear her. I lived life in blissful ignorance of pain and reality.
But that night of December 20th began a process of rebirth. I wept. For 36 consecutive hours, I could not stop weeping. Up until that point, I truly did not realize that I was about to lose the greatest gift I’d ever been given. In the proceeding months, the Holy Spirit allowed the scales to fall from my eyes. Though the Lord had gotten a hold of my heart when I was 18, I’d lived the next 18 years, especially the last 7 since we’d been married, uninterested in the Lord. But in the last few months, my counselor, our pastor and even my wife will attest that the Holy Spirit has done something miraculous and made me into a new man. The kinds of changes I’ve been able to experience can truly only be explained by divine intervention. Praise Jesus for it.
Now, however, my wife is torn. She fears trusting that this “new man” (who’s only been around for 8 months!) will remain. I have said that for the first 7 years of our marriage that I abused my wife by way of neglect: primarily neglecting emotional connection and neglecting financial responsibilities. I put immense undue stress on my poor wife. She has been scarred by my mistreatment of her. And rightfully so.
But she also realizes that I am a new man. And she feels a tremendous amount of pressure from our community. Our pastor has told her strongly that she has no biblical grounds for divorce. Our friends have said the same. And while she understands their counsel, she still feels that no one fully understands the pain and trauma I have inflicted on her.
We have a son who is almost 3. I love him with all my heart. I am trying to learn the disciplines necessary to maximize the incredible amount of talent that the Lord has blessed me with but that I have yet to turn into vocational success. And I am embracing living life being truly vulnerable and authentic, walking with my Father daily (thank you DAB!).
My wife is scared. She is conflicted. She’s been so hurt by me. Outside of a belief in the redemptive power of the Holy Spirit, I do NOT deserve a second chance. The last thing my wife wants to do is rip apart our family and separate me and my son. But she fears continuing to live a life where she is taken advantage of and is a slave to the irresponsible behavior I’ve exhibited in the past.
Pray for my wife. That she can somehow trust that the Lord is capable of the miraculous. That she can allow Him to be in control of her life and ours.
Thank you DAB family!

August 14, 2017 at 3:56 pmHeavenly Father,
I see nothing but pure honesty in this man. Despite his many sins in the past which you already have forgiven all I see is a pure man that has changed his ways . Lord we all have sinned and fallen short of your glory.
Lord you know the pain that the wife has faced. We cannot pretend that the pain has gone BUT we know that you are the healer of all wounded and broken hearts. I ask you Lord by your mercy to visit this wife and reveal to her that in the same way you saved her as a wretched sinner, in the same way you saved her when she was heading to hell, in the same way you wiped her tears , in the same way you have forgiven her when she cried to you – Let her have the same grace. May you Lord grant her the grace to forgive her husband. Let the power of the Holy Spirit now sweep over this marriage remove all contamination and evil seeds that the enemy has planted.
I speak life over this marriage. In Jesus name I pray.
Amen
