March 29, 2018 at 9:53 amFriends of a special Warren County family are rallying our community to pray for and support them as sweet 9-month-old Molly undergoes surgery to remove a cancerous tumor on Good Friday, 3/30/18.
We are asking the community to especially lift up Molly Lynn Hughes on Friday, March 30th – Good Friday – as she undergoes surgery to remove a tumor from her 8 month old body. Everyone PLEASE display and wear yellow ribbons and wear your Molly Strong shirts. Warren County Judge Executive has written a proclamation for 3/30 to be #MollyStrong Day. There is information on the FB Prayers for Molly page.
The story is Molly Lynn Hughes was born on 7-8-2017 to Robbie Hughes and Chelsea Birchell Hughes. She has one brother who is 3 years old named Jamison Cody Hughes. She was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma on black Friday. Her cancerous tumor was the size of a softball. She also had cancer cells in her liver and bone marrow and a couple of lesions on her skull. After 5 rounds of chemo her bone marrow is now clear and the tumor is the size of a golf ball. Surgery is scheduled for Friday March 30th (Good Friday) at 12:30 (probable not on time)to remove the tumor. The surgeon said that these tumors are usually very sticky and it should take 4-6 hours to get it removed. It is on her liver and one of her kidneys. They also said that this will be the hardest part of treatment for her to recover from. She will have an epidural needle in her back to help control the pain for a few days and also a tube through her nose down into her stomach to keep her stomach empty for 2-3 days so she doesn’t get sick and throw up. If she throws up it could cause her to bleed internally. She will not be able to have anything by mouth for at least 3 days. They will give her nutrients by way of her central line.
After she recovers from her surgery she will go through 2 separate stem cell transplants. The stem cells were harvested from her own body a couple of months ago. Each transplant will take about 4-6 weeks in the hospital. After she recovers from the transplants she will undergo immunotherapy for 6 months. This will consist of one week in the hospital for treatment and 2 weeks out respectively for 6 months.
Molly’s uncle, Cody Birchell, (Chelsea’s brother) was diagnosed with leukemia (ALL) at the age of 12 and had his treatments at Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital where Molly is receiving treatments. They have some of the very same nurses and doctors. Cody lost his battle at the age of 15. Needless to say we are very nervous and anxious for her to get through this and have it behind us.
Thank you for your support and the positive support from everyone and our community. We appreciate the prayers for strength to keep us lifted up and going. We are looking forward to a “normal” life with Molly and her brother.
Grandparents are Mark and Susan Hughes and Brian and Ronda Birchell.soundyaaPrayers: 3085Requests: 12

Dear Lord Jesus,
We come before you bowed low for this young life. Lord have mercy. Lord please come near with your healing hand, please close in the surgery, guide the intervention. Lord please prepare her body, please intervene so this tumour comes out remarkably easily. Lord please help the stem cell transplants work and be effective. Lord for this one may the words written in Matthew 4:4 be true for this one that this young life shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Lord speak into this, surround her with love be a healing and restore her body with health. AmenPraiseHimPrayers: 1073Requests: 109
