December 17, 2022 at 12:38 amDay 6 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” ****Isaiah’s Prophecy**** God is known to us by many names for He is many things to us. He is our protector and our refuge. He is our strength and our peace. He sent His Son to us to rule over us—not to establish more laws, but to fulfill the law established by God. In Old Testament times, God’s people paid for their sins by sacrificing the healthiest, strongest, and cleanest animals in their herds. They brought their lambs and other animals before God as a payment for their sins. Jesus came to be the last sacrifice. The Lamb of God, as He is called, was sinless, pure, blameless, and perfect. After He died on the cross, God’s people no longer needed to make those same sacrifices. He came as a fulfillment of a promise that God would send a Savior to His people. The Messiah is the best Christmas gift we could ever receive. Isaiah prophesied about all the things God would give us through the Messiah and all the roles He would come to fulfill. Wonderful—His ways are incomprehensible to us and miraculous in nature. He has no limits, does not fit within the confines of a box, and cannot be chained. Everything that He has done is outside of our realm of imagination. How marvelous and how awesome is He? Counselor—And like a king before his subjects, our King discerns what is right in the eyes of God. He advocates for the glory of His kingdom as a counselor for His people. He is our guide as we obediently follow. He establishes our steps. He walks beside us to listen to us and teach us to love God and love each other. He holds authority over us, and His wisdom is ours to seek. He hears and sees us. He is a constant confidant for us to pursue in our times of need, our times of joy, and all the times in between. Mighty God—The child that would be born, given to us by God, was God—mighty in power and strength. The One who spoke everything into existence—from the expanse of the universe to the delicate wings of butterflies—came down to earth to walk among His people. He had the ability to turn water into wine, forgive sins, heal sickness, mend brokenness, multiply provisions, and restore life. Everlasting Father—John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Verse 14 reads, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Jesus is the Word of God and has been in existence since the very beginning and will sit on His throne forevermore. He is the Everlasting Father and has opened the gate to eternal salvation, forever dwelling among those who love and follow Him. Prince of Peace—Peace is a gift that is freely given to us by Jesus. In John 14:25 Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Jesus carries our burdens and mends our broken hearts. However, He is not only the One who can give us rest from the troubles of this world, but it is through Him that peace with God is possible. We have a direct connection to our heavenly Father because of the Prince of Peace who has united us together with God. Isaiah spoke of this perfect Man who would fulfill all of these roles—a Son born to us on Christmas Day. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Oh, my precious sister, today I am so grateful for our Lord and Savior to have so many magnificent names because He fulfills all our changing needs! Praying whatever name you need our Lord to be at any given point of time, you feel His devoted love for you washing over your body and bringing you joy and peace today and always!🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊✨✨✨❤️❤️❤️🌸🌸🌸

December 18, 2022 at 12:03 amDay 7 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” ***********Magi********** Though our Nativity sets depict a beautiful scene of the events surrounding the birth of Christ, these events did not happen on a single night. The shepherds were there on the holiest of nights, but the wise men would not arrive for a while longer. When they did arrive, there weren’t just three of them, but many—dignitaries, philosophers, magicians, and astrologers who traveled from far away places. They set out with their entourages—servants, animals, supplies, tents, and luxuries befitting the travels of wealthy men. These men were called magi. They studied the stars, interpreted dreams, and practiced arts that were considered sinful to the Jews. They worshipped other gods and held different beliefs and traditions than the people of Israel. Likely, it was quite the spectacle to see this caravan travel across the lands. Isaiah prophesied about this event as well in Isaiah 60:6: “Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah. And all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and incense and proclaiming the praise of the Lord.” And so they went to Jerusalem where King Herod sat on the throne. Expecting a baby, the magi inquired, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2) King Herod, greatly disturbed by the rumor of a king who would claim his throne, sent the magi on to Bethlehem where the prophecies foretold of this birth. The magi followed the path of the star that led them to a house in the little town where the family stayed. And there before the child, the unlikeliest men bowed down in worship. These wise men presented gifts suited for a king: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Joseph and Mary had likely never beheld such riches or been in the presence of such wealthy, high-ranking men—all for the honor and glory of the King of the Jews.

December 19, 2022 at 12:08 amDay 8 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” ****Star of Bethlehem**** On the clearest of nights without a cloud in sight, far away from the bustle of urban life, the universe is revealed. Suddenly you have the ability to see stars that are quintillions of miles away. If you could stand in a field, away from city lights, you would feel enveloped by the darkness. It wouldn’t be scary; it would be mystifying. It would almost feel like you were floating as billions of stars glistened around you. Faintly, you would see a cloud-like ribbon weaving in the sky—the Milky Way Galaxy. And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.’ And it was so. And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:14-18 ESV God of the universe—He’s much bigger than we can imagine. He hung each of those stars in the vast expanse of the skies. And that expanse? It goes on forever. He made that. Like an artist with a blank canvas or a writer with a blank page, God created something beautiful out of nothing. In Jesus’ time, both Jews and gentiles studied the stars and charted their paths. Seasonal patterns of stars would show the passage of time as the earth journeyed around the sun. In the day, travelers would know in which direction to travel by the course of the sun, but at night, they followed the stars. A star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel… Numbers 24:17 Just as suddenly as the angels had appeared before the shepherds, a star caught the attention of the magi—one that had never existed before. These wise men eagerly followed the star into Israel, to Jerusalem for they knew that it was a sign of the promised King. Surely they would find the King in the palace of the capital city of Israel. Instead, their arrival and their inquiries of the newborn King led King Herod to fear that this child had arrived to steal his throne. Not everyone would be excited about the rise of the King of the Jews. King Herod’s priests remembered the ancient prophecies that said that Christ would be born in Bethlehem. Herod hoped the magi would bring more news about the baby, so he sent them on their way. As the magi traveled from Jerusalem to Bethlehem, the magnificent star led the way. The light shone brightly in the darkness, a parallel to the Light that would defeat the darkness of the world. Jesus had come. The wise men were overjoyed by this sign from God for their search to find the new King had ended. And they bowed down to worship Him. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you… Isaiah 9:2-3

December 20, 2022 at 12:09 amDay 9 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” ****Micah’s Prophecy**** Long ago, God spoke through the prophet Micah giving His people more clues about the birth of Christ. He still didn’t share a time—that was always part of the surprise. But he did share a place: Bethlehem. Bethlehem was the name of a small, seemingly insignificant town within Israel. He could have given Micah the name of a broader region or area, but instead, his details were so specific that it would be like aiming an arrow in the exact center of a target: the bullseye. Scripture points us to Bethlehem long before Jesus was born. In the book of Ruth, Naomi and her husband left Israel because of a famine, but years later Naomi and her daughter-in-law, Ruth, returned home to the town called Bethlehem. Ruth gave birth to Obed who was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the father of David (Matthew 1:5-6). When David was a teenager, God sent another prophet, named Samuel, to Bethlehem because He had chosen a king among the sons of Jesse. That king was David, the youngest of Jesse’s sons who, at that time, was shepherding their sheep. But David was only the first king of his line. God had planned an eternal King that would be David’s great, great, great, great (many many more greats) grandson. Now the arrow pointed toward a specific family lineage from within the little village—a bullseye within a bullseye.

December 21, 2022 at 12:21 amDay 10 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” ********Bethlehem******** God’s perfect plans are intricately designed like the threaded scenes on a tapestry. They are woven throughout Scripture in a way that clearly connects God’s promises to the fulfillment of those promises. Joseph and Mary lived in Nazareth which was quite a ways from Bethlehem. However, the prophecies didn’t mention that the baby would be born in Nazareth. Precisely at the time when Mary was nearing the end of her pregnancy, everyone was required to return to the place of their birth so the government could get a count of the population. Joseph, originally from Bethlehem, along with Mary, had to travel on foot for at least a week back to his hometown. It was time for the baby to be born, and the Lord would soon enter the world. Because so many people were arriving in Bethlehem for the census, there were no rooms available for Mary to give birth. The couple found a private spot where animals used for food, trade, or sacrifices were kept. Then the promise was fulfilled: Israel’s ruler came from the little town of Bethlehem (Micah 5:2). God then sent a messenger to the shepherds in the fields nearby that they would find the Messiah lying in a manger (Luke 2:11-12). But Bethlehem has another significance besides the birthplace of both King David and King Jesus. In John 6:51, Jesus told His followers, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” The word Bethlehem in Hebrew means “the house of bread.” The baby that was swaddled in a manger—a feeding trough—was, and is, the Bread of Life.

December 22, 2022 at 12:54 amDay 11 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” **********Joseph********* Mary and Joseph were counting down the days until their wedding. In Biblical times, couples were already considered to be husband and wife during their engagement. By law, however, they were not allowed to be alone together until after the ceremony when their marital vows would be spoken. For a woman to become pregnant during their betrothal period would cause dishonor upon their families. News that a baby is coming is normally cause for happiness and celebration, but this wasn’t the case when Mary broke the news to her husband. There was no way that Joseph was the baby’s father. But if he wasn’t the father, then who was? Joseph would not have immediately believed that the ancient prophecies were coming true. As the baby grew inside of Mary, the townspeople would begin to gossip. Had Mary and Joseph broken God’s law for marriage? Or had Mary been unfaithful to her betrothed? Joseph was a righteous man who followed the law. Legally, he could divorce her for being unfaithful before the wedding. But doing so would be a public event in front of the elders of the court. He did not want to cause any shame or embarrassment for Mary, so he planned to divorce her quietly. She would then be free to marry whoever she wanted. Fortunately, an angel of the Lord met Joseph in a dream. He told Joseph about the miracle that had taken place: God Almighty was the baby’s Father! And He chose Joseph to be Jesus’ earthly father. Joseph was worthy in the eyes of God to raise up His Son. What an honor for a young Jewish man! It would be a difficult journey for the couple who would face judgment from their family, friends, and community. They would be the center of gossip and scrutiny. Very few would know about the holy events that were unfolding. However, obedience would bring honor and glory to God, and that mattered more to Joseph than the approval of man. God chose this role for him. He appointed Joseph as the baby’s adoptive father who would give Him the name Jesus, which means, “God is salvation.”

December 23, 2022 at 3:32 amDay 12 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” ***********Mary********** With one last push, the baby took His first breath. An exhausted Mary’s outstretched arms drew Him near to her chest as the trembling cries of a newborn filled the air. His heart beat rhythmically next to hers—a human heart. The Lord had come. Every baby is a gift, but this one was the best gift of all. Just nine months prior, Mary’s life changed when the angel, Gabriel, arrived in the tiny town of Nazareth. He said she was the prophesied virgin who would give birth to the Messiah. “God is with you,” he greeted her—a foreshadowing that the task ahead would not be hers alone to bear. Though she would endure judgment from her community, Mary bowed her heart in servitude for the Lord. As the baby grew inside her, she felt Him kick and move. His little hiccups tickled her tummy. Her body ached as He stretched against her petite frame. Mary’s body provided the perfect incubator for Jesus to begin His life on earth. Her arms, both gentle and strong, lovingly cradled the Lamb of God. Motherhood is holy work. Her cousin Elizabeth, pregnant with John, rejoiced with her for she knew that Mary was the mother of the Lord. After His birth, shepherds arrived and told the incredible story about the visit from the angel and heavenly host. The magi traveled far and wide to look upon His face and worship Him. All who saw Him marveled at Him as the Holy Spirit led them to the truth about this baby. Mary “treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). God humbly placed Himself into the arms of a mother. The Almighty God stripped Himself of power and was dependent on her from infancy through childhood. Mary would always love and know Him best: the color of His eyes, the sound of His laugh, the touch of His embrace. She rocked Him to sleep, kissed Him goodnight, played with Him, taught Him, held His hand, and bathed Him. She was the only person to witness both His first breath and His last. Though she was young at the time of Jesus’ birth, she was mature in her faith. Mary was devoted to both Father and Son. She brought honor and glory to Him through her love, obedience, and worship. All generations have indeed called her blessed (Luke 2:48).

December 24, 2022 at 12:38 amDay 13 from a Devotional called “The Nativity” ****Jesus the Messiah**** Hallelujah! On the holiest of nights, a Savior was born. The echoing cry of a newborn baby announced the beginning of a new covenant with God. This special child would grow up to heal the sick, mend the brokenhearted, awaken the dead, wash away sins, and bring salvation to the earth. He walked among His people, broke bread with them, laughed, sang, and cried with them. He was a teacher, guide, worshipper, son, brother, and friend. His arrival into this world changed everything. The Lord’s humanity was love raining down on His beloved. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17 The prophecies of old foretold the specific details of this promise that was fulfilled with the birth of a Savior. Immanuel—God with us—Jesus, or Yehoshua—God is salvation—Christ—anointed one. His arrival was a beacon of hope in a broken world. As God opened the eyes of those who gazed upon the face of Christ, they recognized Him as the Son of God and fell to their knees in worship. Let us always do the same.

December 24, 2022 at 12:52 amWell, we made it to Christmas Eve, my favorite three young people! After church services at our house, is when we have a light supper along with cookies, bars and popcorn balls. We then open our gifts. But there are many people who wait until Christmas Day, too. I just enjoy having family around and remembering Jesus’ birthday! Can you imagine how small He was, and how tiny His cry would have sounded? Mary and Joseph were so favored to be the first ones to hold Him in their arms! Ever wonder what they were thinking when they looked down at His face? Well, here’s some jokes to keep you occupied before opening presents (whenever you do it). Merry Christmas, my precious Z1, Z2, and Z3! ❤️🎄⛪️🕊️🙏🌹 ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ What do you need to make a small fortune on Wall Street? A large fortune!💰🤑🤣😂😅 How does a penguin build his house? Igloos it together 🐧🧊😂😅🤣😂😂🤣😅😂. How long does it take to make butter? An echurnity! 🧈😂😅🤣😂😅😂🤣😅😂🤣 What kind of doctor is Dr. Pepper? A fizzician!🥤😂😂. Why did the coffee file a police report? Because she wanted to see the task manager!😂🤣😂. What do you call a steer with a microphone? A bull horn! 🐂🎤📢😂😅🤣😂😅😂🤣😅 I had a neck brace fitted years ago, and I haven’t looked back since! 😂😅😂.

December 25, 2022 at 12:27 amDay 14 (and final day) from a Devotional called “The Nativity”. *****Merry Christmas!**** Dear Jesus, Happy Birthday! “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”Luke 2:14, Isaiah 9:6 Today we bow down before You in worship. You are our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, our King, our Savior, our Shepherd, our Friend. Thank you for loving us despite our brokenness, for teaching us how to love God and love others, and for guiding us toward righteousness. Your sacrifice has given us the ability to have a personal relationship with our heavenly Father—Your love is without limit. We are grateful for the Word, and we ask that it continues to take root in our hearts. May we always be in awe of You, Lord, falling more and more in love with you every day. We worship You and praise You. It is in Your holy name we pray. Amen.
