Psalm 17:8. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings. The apple of the eye is the very centre of the eye. We are each the apple of God’s eye. We are in the centre of God’s vision & never out of His sight. We are precious to Him & guarded as the apple of His eye. We appreciate the value of our own eyes. If we need them, many of us wear glasses or contact lenses. Over the decades, countless hours & millions of pounds have been invested into learning about our eyes & taking care of them. We therefore visit the optician on a regular basis to check the health of our eyes. We wear protective glasses or goggles, when involved in certain activities that could potentially damage the eye. We understand the value of our eyes. And so we can appreciate that when God calls us the apple of His eye, we are of great value to Him. If our own eye is under threat, we will instinctively do 1 or maybe 2 things. We will immediately close our eyes & we’re likely to  put our hands over our eyes to protect them. This is an instinctive double protection reflex. How much more protection does the God of the universe extend to us as we abide in Him. Surely He will tuck us under His wings. Notice the scripture does not say wing, but wings. There are 2 wings – this is double protection.
