2 families crushed: my son had affair with his own father's best friend's wife

I am devastated! My son, in his 20’s, was so full of spiritual pride, arrogance, folly and rebellion, that he had a sexual affair with the wife of his father’s best friend. He believed so highly of himself that he was giving her Christian counselling, against my husband’s wishes. My son was taught that a single man should not counsel a woman, especially alone. His father taught him that he needed to be under spiritual authority, especially due to his age, but my son was set on the idea that he was an adult and knew what he was doing. He refused to be under anyone’s authority, whether his father or a pastor. He also believed himself so spiritually strong that he could handle everything. I can’t believe it happened! She was 15 years older than him, he’s known her his whole life, her husband (my husband’s best friend) was like a 2nd father to him. They have 8 kids, who my son has babysat! It has devastated both our family and theirs and my husband is crushed! Please pray for all of us! My son regrets his actions, but he is not broken over it, he defends himself and is still full of spiritual pride, trying to dictate the terms regarding how we deal with all of this in our family. His rebellion against authority and his pride have been problems for over a decade, so I knew he was bound to fall into some kind of sin, and warned him so, but I never could have imagined this! He has now gone his own way, thinking us unreasonable. I just pray that God will humble him, like the prodigal son. In the meantime, we are trying to process this and need to heal somehow…
June 15, 2018 at 5:49 pmDearest Erin, there are so many levels of hurt going on here, all at the same time. I pray our Lord pours discernment onto your son. We learn from our mistakes. Hopefully this will be one of those life lessons we emerge better people from. May our Father God help both families transition from pain to grace. Stay close to God. Let us pray over your son. God is close to the broken-hearted. Believe in the Word. Praying for you sister

So sorry to hear about this! I pray that your son comes to truly regret his actions and asks for forgiveness. I pray that your husband’s best friend has the strength to forgive his wife. I pray that his wife seeks forgiveness from not only her husband but her children as well. Please, comfort and console all who have been harmed by this affair. Speak clarity and forgiveness over them, that healing may take place. I lift them up to You trusting in your justice and Divine Will for their lives.
I praise You for being a good and loving parent, even when we make mistakes.

Father, You resurrected Your precious Son from death, He lives forevermore. Alleluia! Your Word tells us, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. We intercede for this situation and ask, dear Holy Spirit of God to do the work that You do best – when it looks so impossible – You Oh Lord, turn it around. Woven in the seams of this story, You are present. We soon will read about Jehoshaphat and in his prayer to You, Oh Lord, he said, he didn’t know what to do so his eyes were upon You. We, too, lift our tearful eyes to You and ask not so much for relief from the pain but for You to be glorified . You are the beauty of Holiness and we give You all the glory. In that is our true joy. June 16, 2018 at 3:35 pmFather, In the name of Jesus , come to the rescue of this prodigal son and grab him quickly from the lies and grip of the enemy. Please rescue him Lord and heal the 2 families involved.
