August 5, 2016 at 4:43 pmPlease pray for my friend, a medical doctor in training at a top hospital. He revealed he had been taking an illicit drug for the past 6 months after being sober for over a decade. He became angry when I asked him to stop.
I knew he was endangering his own life and those of his patients. Yesterday we tried to intervene. When he threatened suicide in the clinic I notified his supervisor and revealed the drug use. They were able to get to him in time.
He is very angry and suicidal, feeling that I betrayed him. He has a lot of debt, which he’d like to pay off by working as a full-fledged physician soon. The events of yesterday will delay that until he gets sober. He is all alone in Maryland.
Please pray for him, as he struggles with emotionally abusive family members and a history of sexual abuse from a church youth group leader. This was what got him into drugs in the first place. His family is very religious, so he is bitter towards God. Please pray for him to be able to turn to and trust in God again. Please pray that God will keep him from committing suicide.
Please pray for me also. I’m studying for my own medical board exams and this new stress has made it hard to focus. The stakes are high because I had failed them previously, due to concentration difficulties from medical issues, which are resolving with treatment. Please pray that I will be able to focus on my studies, to give my friend to God, and to trust that he will heal us all.
Thank you for your prayers. I can’t do this alone.

August 6, 2016 at 6:30 amI was very touched by your story and immediately prayed for you and your friend. The prayer for my morning devotion today seemed to relate to your situation and I thought you might like to use it:
Guide us in the right way.
This day is our pilgrimage.
When we are daunted by the day’s tasks,
give us strength.
When we are wearied by the same path,
help us to see you in all things.
When forgiving is an uphill struggle,
grant us your help.
When we are overwhelmed by obstacles,
lift us up.
When the load we carry is heavy,
come to us and give us rest.
When we are fearful of unexpected twists and turns,
assure us of your presence.
When we are worried about which path to take,
guide us in the right way.
And at the end of the journey, at the end of this day
may our hearts burn with the knowledge
that we have walked with you,
and you have walked with us. Amen.
God bless you and keep you in his loving care and protection.

August 6, 2016 at 7:55 pmThank you so much, maryshelagh. Your prayer was timely.
It’s helped me get through the day.
Please pray for my safety. He has retaliated and has made more threats to do so.
I trust in God.
Thanks for your prayers.

August 7, 2016 at 10:41 am2 Corinthians 4:16-18 So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.

August 7, 2016 at 10:44 am2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
