October 17, 2021 at 11:12 amHow should you spend your time awaiting the Rapture? Do these four things. I know many members of this community are eagerly awaiting the Rapture. Maybe you hoped it would happen on the Feast of Trumpets in September. Some of you even wondered if the calendar was off for this biblical feast, and prayed that the Rapture might take place the first week of October. Regardless, you are ready. You have been eagerly waiting for this event. And every day the Rapture doesn’t happen, you feel impatient. So many elements of our society seem to be pointing to the events of the end times, and the idea of waiting another year, or two years or five years for the fulfillment of these Bible prophecies isn’t appealing to you. How do you handle the waiting? Here are four suggestions. Keep your focus on God. Don’t just sit around watching the news, cataloguing the bad things happening in the world, and spending time with people who only complain about current events. Imagine going on a 300-mile road trip and announcing every time you pass a highway mile marker: “We are 299 miles away! We are 298 miles away! Now, we’re 297 miles away.” Focusing on each milestone in a car ride isn’t just annoying to the passengers in the car with you. It’s guaranteed to make your journey feel much longer than it really is. Instead, widen your focus. Think about the destination—the presence of God. This will make your journey pass much more quickly. I know many of you see things happening in the world today and your spirit is grieved. That’s actually a sign that you’re a godly person, that you’re “not of this world” but of the Kingdom of God, because the things that oppose His kingdom should grieve us. But the Bible says God knows how to preserve those who are godly. He will deliver believers from ungodliness. When Jesus was teaching the disciples about the last days, He described terrible things to them—the “distress of nations,” signs in the moon and stars, men’s hearts “failing them from fear.” These all sound like events and realities that should grieve us. But Jesus also says this: “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”—Luke 21:28 Look up. Focus on Him. You don’t have to pay attention to every negative headline. But do understand that these discouraging news events—like mile markers—take you closer to your redemption. Trust God with everything Paul writes that we should be anxious for nothing. Is that possible? Absolutely. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.—Philippians 2:6-7 Anxiety is not a condition. It’s a choice. You can choose to worry or you can choose to trust God. Whenever you are worrying and anxious, this is a sign that you are not trusting God. Is something causing you anxiety? My suggestion is to write it down somewhere. Write down everything you’re worried about, and that list of worries becomes your prayer list. You’re saying, “Lord, these things have been on my plate, but now I’m putting them on Your plate. They’re in Your hands. I’m trusting that You are going to take care of me.” When you trust God, He will give you peace that surpasses our understanding. He will use that supernatural peace to guard over your heart and your mind. That’s how you live in God’s peace, despite all the concerning things that may be happening in our world right now. Stay in fellowship with other believers Obviously, over the past year, COVID has disrupted Christian fellowship all over the world. I know that a lot of people have been watching church online, but we all know that experience is not quite the same. Isolation may have helped control the spread of the virus, but spiritually and psychologically, isolating yourself is one of the most dangerous things you can do as a human. We were created to be in fellowship and relationship. God made us to live in community with each other. More than ever before, we need to be in the company of other believers. Hebrews 10 makes this very clear: And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.—Hebrews 10:24-25 Don’t neglect gathering together, Paul writes. It becomes even more important “as you see the Day approaching”—as the end times grow increasingly near. We need to be together, encouraging each other toward good works. That’s the difference between going on the offense and representing God’s Kingdom on earth or just sitting at home and letting the devil beat up on us. We simply need to be around other believers. Live to make a difference You may think your time on earth is limited, with weeks or months or only a year or two remaining. If that’s your mindset, please recognize that it is not license to live for yourself. Don’t start living for money or living for pleasure. Jesus makes this clear in Matthew 28: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”—Matthew 28:19-20 This statement is known as the Great Commission, to go into the world and make disciples of all nations. That’s what churches do. That’s what ministries do. And that is something you, also, should do—even to the end of the age. Even as you await the Rapture. We’re all going to stand in judgment before Jesus when we get to the end. And when we stand in judgment, one of the reasons we’ll be standing is judgment is related to the purpose behind our lives. Did we live a selfish, tiny life that was just all about us? Or was our life about something bigger than us and something eternal? I love my wife and kids and grandkids. I adore my family and friends. But the most important thing in my life is living for God. I want to encourage you to live the rest of your life for God—even if you haven’t lived a minute of your life, to this point, for the Lord. From today forward, you can say, “God, however long you delay Jesus, from this day forward, I live for You and I want to make a difference.” I promise you this: If you keep your focus on God, refuse to be anxious for anything, gather regularly with other believers and live your life for God, then you’re going to stand when others are falling. You’re going to be encouraged when others are discouraged. And you’re going to be ready when Jesus returns.
