July 8, 2023 at 2:52 amHi Friends, I have been convicted for a long time to quit drinking alcohol. We live in a alcohol saturated culture and I too am caught up. I grew up learning to drink at a very early age. Years later I became a Christian and learned to drink socially. Lately I see that in social situations I never abstain. Somewhere in my brain I am programmed to think that I need that glass of wine to fit in or enjoy myself. I never, ever get drunk but I still have put much dependence on that Friday/Saturday/Sunday night glass of wine. I haven’t had a drink in a week and am simply calling it a break but now it’s the hard time because it’s the weekend. My husband drinks socially too and doesn’t have this conviction. I ask for prayer to see that just because I’m not joining in that I can still enjoy social settings or even sitting on a summer evening with my husband and still enjoy it, without a drink. I don’t need a 12 step program but would love to hear from others who have given it up and seen that it’s not that hard to enjoy an alcohol free life. My prayer is that I can be set free as God set me completely free of smoking years ago. I’m not there yet. Thanks.

July 8, 2023 at 9:58 amI applaud your wanting to put alcohol down. And for confessing your fault before your greater church family. I fully understand the difficulty in doing so sister suzabell. I started out a lot like you, my folks were social drinkers. When I was a kid i grew up around this social activity, so when I got into Junior High, it was easy for me to transition into being one too. If I could have kept it at that, I may not have encountered all the grief that I encountered. But once the door was opened, I went on to developing a full blown drinking problem. A problem that cost me dearly, and almost destroyed my life. There’s too much to tell only to say, that my addiction for alcohol started out in the way that you described. I would be extremely cautious that you don’t fool yourself into believing that you don’t have a real problem. The enemy has a way of hooking you, and then playing out enough line until he’s really got you before he reels you in. What started out to be just wanting to fit in, became a burdensome addiction that put me on skid row in the end. I always bought the lie that I could quit at any time. “It was a lie.” This is the kind of spoon fed lie that has ruined many a poor soul,”– and I was one, — a fool. For me, deliverance was my only option. I found that it was impossible for me to stop on my own. For me it took a supernatural intervention before I was able to experience true freedom. I pray that should you find yourself going around circles with only limited success, that you come to the place of acknowledgement that you do indeed have a addiction problem.– “Moving past denial is the first step in achieving lasting freedom.” I also pray that you don’t put off seeking deliverance for as long as I did. The LORD alone can set the captive free like no other program on earth. Take it from one who knows, there’s no one like JESUS when it comes to living a life free from the fleshly bondages that slowly become our master over time.
Praying for you.
In JESUS matchless Name. Amen! 💓
