June 21, 2020 at 11:54 amI asked God this question that maybe someone here can answer: I’m having a hard time reconciling the fact that you let John be murdered, but you were capable and healed OTHERS and later set captive apostles free from prison. Even John felt the same way. He was so innocent, and such a horrible death. Please show me why? You are compassionate, then why did you stand by and let it happen?

June 21, 2020 at 3:25 pmGreetings, dorothysano.
Your struggle to understand is one that I have had about similar things over the years. The question posed is one that could so easily be heard today from so many who are also struggling with similar thoughts, most especially from those who have lost a loved one(s) in a natural disaster, accident / crash, routine medical procedure or similar. I do not have an answer for you, one that I feel would be received as satisfactory, nor do I suppose anyone on this earth would.
I once heard a pastor say something similar to this, “we can answer questions posed to us on the condition that God has revealed those answers within His word.” The pastor continued, “we often cannot answer the ‘why’ questions.”
God tells us that He is unsearchable, therefor anything that He has not chosen to reveal to us in scripture, and the associated understanding through His Holy Spirit, is not something we can know. Often, the ‘why’ questions are ones that we simply cannot answer. One may ask, “if God is love, and good, why did He allow my / a child to die?” Or any number of ‘why’ questions that the best anyone can do is guess at. We know that God’s word is true, He tells us that He is good, that He is love, that He is merciful, etc. It is, sometimes, hard to rationalize these things that appear to us to be contradictions of these characteristics, no doubt.
I, personally, find peace and comfort in knowing that these characteristics of God are indeed true – as He has and continues to prove to me in my life – and that there is no way I, as a finite mortal being, could ever hope to understand or comprehend God who is infinite and immortal. God’s ways are not our ways, how could we ever hope to adequately relate?
Who is to say that the child who dies before having a chance at life, or someone killed in an accident, or someone who dies during a standard medical procedure, etc. is not being spared a future event so incredibly horrible that ‘we’ wouldn’t wish it upon anyone? Anyone paying attention in this world is aware that it is common place, tragically, that children and young adults are stolen and sold into sexual slavery where they may be regularly beaten and often killed. Many are victimized in such horrific circumstances I will refrain from details in this forum; who is to say that some are not spared from these things by an act we may interpret as inconsistent with God’s attributes / characteristics, however are indeed demonstrations of God’s goodness, His love and His compassion? We simply cannot know, and that’s the thing. It’s similar to trying to ‘prove’ the existence of God when God has designed things to require faith. I also need to remember my place, as a human, in the order of things; I am in no position to expect or demand an answer from God about anything, much less to demand His justification(s) for doing what He chooses.
For what it’s worth, I hope this brings you some peace.

June 21, 2020 at 7:16 pmHello dorothysano, i agree with the above statement whole heartily. Your question is one of wanting to understand God, and his often disguised MO. It is true that gods ways are not ours. He will many times for purposes of His own, shroud things in order to have His ultimate plan for humanity fulfilled.
One thing that has been proven is that God, will go to great lengths to have people come to Him and be saved. He gave His one and only begotten Son to prove that. Look at the growth of the church of Jesus Christ that has occurred. Because The Father, in His supreme wisdom allowed Christ to die, and to become the first born among many brethren.
Scripture tells us that there is a purpose for everything under the sun. One thing you can count on is God never misses an opportunity. It is evident that the beheading of John the Baptist never stopped the church from advancing. In fact,God continued to work by His Spirit, and through His people that were called by Jesus. To proclaim, and demonstrate the kingdom of God. And His intent was that others might be drawn to know Him.
John the Baptist death, acted as a catalysis, that launched the church forward. It would seem, that, was God’s purpose for John. he was the for runner, that God used to advance the kingdom of God. John, like Jesus, had their separate rolls to play in the Fathers eternal plan. And we can all be thankful for it.Blessings!

June 22, 2020 at 1:03 amHi Dorothy, I agree we often don’t have answers for the ‘why’ questions. The Bible does tell us how God feels about the death of His children. Ps 116:15 and Rev 14:13 As we continue to trust in God, He will give us perfect peace in the midst of situations for which we have no explanation.

June 22, 2020 at 7:41 amAbba Father! Thank You for Dorothysano – her question of why John the Baptist died the death he died. Why martyrs die the deaths they die? Yes, Lord – Your Word reveals Your sovereignty but often not the reasons why some are miraculously saved and others are called home.
John himself told his disciples: “He must increase, I must decrease.”Many years ago, when I came to the LORD, God used a Christian musician to bring me into His Presence. For one so young, he had great wisdom and his music was inspiring. He had a young family. He died in a plane crash leaving his young pregnant wife with one child at home. His other two children were on the plane with him. Even today, when I listen to his music, I will muse to myself that God needed a piano player.
Some may argue with that but it comforts me. Ultimately, this is not our home, our home is in heaven. As I study the Scriptures and wonder about why some were saved from death and others not – I ponder God’s purpose for each one of us. He uses our lives to fulfill His purpose. As we align ourselves to Him, we allow Him to choose because we know that He will work out all things for our good.
Bless you dear Dorothy. We love you.
