February 5, 2022 at 1:58 amDear t1ccsf, how I can relate to your dilemma. I smoked tobacco for 38 years. Honestly, over those years I must have quit hundreds of times. Each time, failing with my commitment only to find myself beating myself up over the whole ordeal over, and over again.
There came a day where I knew that if I didn’t quit I’d be hopeless lost in my addiction. I’m so thankful for the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Thankfully I am able to share that the good LORD, had another idea in mind. He kept impressing on me to draw a line in the sand “So to speak”. I was to go up for prayer after service, and request prayer from the Elders of my church like the book of JAMES talks about doing in (Ja. 5:15). I was to have them pray the prayer of faith over me. The Holy Spirt was impressing on me was to Make a stand by believing that when I walked out of church that day, I was to believe that God had completely delivered me. “thus drawing a line in the sand.” from that day forward I was to confess that I was delivered that Sunday evening. It was to be my point of contact, that when the Elders laid their hands on me, that’s when I was delivered.
So that’s what I did. I left church that night believing that the LORD had indeed delivered me. I made it through the first night and the next few days without wanting a smoke. Every time the enemy would try to get me to pick up a cigarette, I would remember back just a few days earlier when God set me free! I was set free! when I connected my faith to the prayer that the Elders prayed over me. “That was the line drawn in the sand.” At that moment, God took the desire for smoking completely away from me.
I have to be truthful, It took some determination on my part to resist the devils temptation. But through the grace of God, I was able to stand my ground and not cross over the line again. That was over 50 years ago, and I’m happy to share that they’ve been 50 smoke free! years.
I know this is a long response, but I felt lead to share my experience. Friend, I know that God’s no respecter of people. What He’s done for one, He will do for another. I want to encourage you to not give up seeking the LORD for your deliverance. He sees, and He understands how difficult it is to stop. He will, deliver you. I believe this with my whole heart. The way He choses to, may be totally different than the manner He did with me. But one thing I know for sure, at some point you will need to draw a line in the sand. And you’ll need a point of contact that you can look back too when the tempter comes knocking on your door. Praying your deliverance comes soon.Love you. Keep the faith. If you’ll allow Him to, God’s going to have the last word in your story on this subject, And you’ll also be shouting songs of victory!
Paying in JESUS NAME. Amen! 💓
