October 29, 2021 at 2:31 pmBlessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5 Meek doesn’t mean weak. Meekness is strength under control. When you ignore someone’s negative comments, when you don’t pay attention to other people’s insults and criticisms, you’re not being weak; you’re being meek. You have the power to fight, you have the strength to straighten them out and let them know how you feel, but your strength is under control. You’re not wasting your time and energy on things that are not between you and your destiny. If you stay on the high road, God will take care of your enemies. He can defend you better than you can defend yourself. My message is very simple: Quit letting other people get you upset and steal your joy. You can’t control what people do; you can’t control what they say, but you can control how you respond. Quit letting their negative comments upset you. You’re not defined by what they say. Don’t give it the time of day. If you maintain your meekness, God will fight your battles. 🍃Prayer for Today🍃 Father, thank You that we have the power to remain quiet because You have worked meekness into our life. Thank You that I can stay in victory and let You take care of other people’s comments and attitudes. I’ve made up my mind that I’m going keep my joy. In Jesus Name, Amen.”

Meekness is power that is totally and completely surrendered to God’s control. This is how our Savior operated during His earthly ministry.
Thank you spiritdoc1 💓

October 30, 2021 at 7:19 amThank you, spiritdoc1, for all you do. I’m in agreement with your message, and think it’s both prudent and good advice. My interpretation of what meek means is slightly different, and I would simply like to present some information for consideration on the matter.
Ultimately, it is irrelevant what I, or any other human being, thinks unless it agrees with what God thinks. We are to test all spirits, test everything, and the only thing we have available to test things against is God’s word as everything else will pass away. (Matthew 24:35) Because scripture must be understood through scripture, interpretations must ‘align’ when taken in the context of the totality of scripture. God’s words for meek in the original language are Strong’s H6035, G4239, and G4239 which are defined as follows:
H6035: depressed (figuratively), in mind (gentle) or circumstances (needy, especially saintly): – humble, lowly, meek, poor | compare H6041: depressed, in mind or circumstances – afflicted, humble
, lowly
, needy, poorG4239: mild, that is, (by implication) humble
G4235: gentle, that is, humbleLet’s look at some of those other words referenced within the definitions above:
Humble: H6031, H3665, H7807, H6035, H7511, H8217, H8213, G5013, G5011
– Word commonalities, consistencies, for humble: to depress literally or figuratively, gentleness, humiliate, bring down, under, sunk, downcast, abase, bring low, of low estatePoor: H1800, H6041, H34, H4134, H3423, H7326, H1803, H2489, H6305, H4270, H4542, H6033, G4434, G3998, G4433, G3993
– Word commonalities, consistencies, for poor: weak or thin, needy, a beggar, starving, distressed, depressed, destitute, in the sense of want, to lack, to be unhappy, a wretch“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek (G4235) and lowly (G5011) in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” – Matthew 11:29
G5011: depressed, that is, (figuratively) humiliated (in circumstances or disposition): – base, cast down, humble, of low degree (estate), lowly
Blessed are the meek (G4239): for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5
Context – Blessed are: the poor (G4434) in spirit, they that mourn (G3996), they which hunger (G3983) and thirst (G1372) after righteousness, the merciful (G1655) , the pure in heart, the peacemakers, they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, are those that are reviled, persecuted, have all manner of evil falsely said against them for Jesus’ sake. (Matthew 5:3-11)
G4434: to crouch, a beggar (as cringing), that is, pauper
G3996: to grieve (the feeling or the act): – mourn, wail
G3983: to famish, to crave, be hungered | G1372: to thirst for, be thirsty
G1655: compassionate (actively)
—Something to think about:
“You are already filled, you have already become rich, you have become kings without us; and indeed, I wish that you had become kings so that we also might reign with you! For I think, God has exhibited us, the apostles, last of all as men condemned to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to mankind. We are fools on account of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are without honor! Up to this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed and roughly treated and homeless; and we labor, working with our own hands; when we are verbally abused, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we reply as friends; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.” (1 Corinthians 4:8-13)Only God knows our hearts, so I don’t presume to assert anything. I simply think it may be a dangerous ‘heart-stance’ to view ourselves as strong, powerful, of a high-station, higher than any other, etc. It’s my interpretation and understanding that we are to be of a lowly place, a servant to all, beneath all, in need of much, lacking much, desiring much, beggars before God, placing others ahead of ourselves, thinking of ourselves as poor and miserable sinners, in child-like dependence on God for absolutely everything, etc.
May the Lord bless us with all discernment, and lead us into all truth. Amen.
