January 24, 2021 at 5:20 pmHi everyone! I’ve been a Christian for a little over a year now, but recently I’ve been struggling a bit. When I first read the Bible the thing that stood out to me the most of that God loves everyone, no matter what you’ve done or are doing at the moment. Jesus spent time with sinners, literally going to their houses. He never judged them or acted as if he was better than them. He loved them completely, no matter what. Ever since I became a Christian I have loved that so much about Him. Lately in my church and community the atmosphere has seemed very unlike what Jesus called us to be like. In church a few weeks ago we were talking in a group about how Jesus would respond to politics if He came and walked among us today, and everyone in the group agreed that anyone who didn’t vote for Trump couldn’t be a real Christian. I was shocked. This does not sound like the Jesus I know from the Bible, and this is certainly NOT how He called us to be. They asked me what I thought about it, and I replied that I believe that Jesus loves and accepts everyone into His kingdom, regardless of which political party we support. They asked me who I voted for, and I said Biden, but I consider myself to be Independent, not republican or democrat. After that they haven’t spoken to me, and I guess they told other people what I said because pretty much everyone else in my church is doing the same. They used to be really warm and kind to me , but now when I try to have conversations they act as if they’re better than me and like I’m wrong. I feel so alone. There are no other churches close to my house, and I just feel so discouraged that other Christians would act like this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do?

January 24, 2021 at 6:40 pmHello Allie, I am sorry that you have been going through this rejection from your church. I agree that Jesus was never here to play politics, but to show God’s glory and call us to him in love. The Bible says that Jesus came to call sinners to repentance, and that through his grace they would be transformed. However, we are still not perfect and we all fall short. Even churches. People in church are still human (still sinners that need Jesus). Don’t forget that your savior is not the church (though we are called to be together in the Body of Christ), but we all still need growth. A good way to display the grace of Jesus is to forgive these people in your heart (as he has forgiven us). I’m sorry you don’t have other church options. You can also pray that these people would be humbled and remember that God has called them to love and share the gospel, not judge and condemn. You can also do your best to be the example of grace to other people that you are lacking from the people around you. I think many Christians can believe that something is ok when it’s not, even voting for people who don’t honor God’s values, but it doesn’t mean they don’t love Jesus and aren’t saved. Only God sees the big picture and knows our hearts, and that’s what matters. He will accomplish his will however he wants, even if we don’t understand it. Praying for you -Rachel

January 24, 2021 at 8:17 pmI’m so sorry, and saddened, to hear about your experience. I wish I could say it’s a rare or unique one but it isn’t. Political orientation isn’t something, in itself, that should result in what has happened to you. There are a few generalizations associated with political parties in this nation that are directly relevant, the issue of abortion for one, however what has happened seems to be akin to saying that all black people are criminals, or all white people are privileged, or all native Americans are drunks, or any number of similar stereotypical generalizations. It seems that a more reasonable response would have been to ask about your thoughts on the political party’s stance related to such things. To adopt a position of ‘superiority’ or similar as you have described is clearly denounced in scripture, regardless of what your responses would have been to the questions if they were asked.
We are specifically instructed to not think of ourselves as any better than anyone else, not think of ourselves as wise, etc. rather to think of ourselves as less than others. We are told to instruct / admonish with scruipture, to build others up in knowledge, correct others, etc. not to adopt a superiority complex and procede to alienate and ignore. Unfortunately, none of us are perfect and we all struggle with falling short of the mark so, we will always see the types of things that happened to you. It’s very unfortunate, and disappointing, that the leadership has not intervened accordingly.
Can you see their hypocrisy? They have gone against scripture themselves in their response, and subsequent conduct, of what amounts to an assumption of presumably your approval of abortion or some other element associated with that political party’s views. See it for what it is. This is not a reflection of God’s will. Not even mentioning the fact that it’s all irrelevant as the real human-wielded power in this world is outside of this nation’s government; but that’s a completely seperate discussion about deception, living in lies, duality paradigm, divide and conquer, hegelian dialectec, etc.
What to do? You could walk away, wash your hands of it and seek fellowship online with any number of church organizations. What is God’s will? Approach someone with relevant scripture for the purpose of correction, be the hands and feet of Jesus and help those who have erred. Seek a meeting with those involved, individually, and take it to the elders / leadership of the church if after the discussion they are unwilling to repent. It’s not a confrontational interaction but one of genuine concern for the spiritual health of others, although it will almost certainly be received and interpreted as a confrontation because it’s God – in His truth – confronting spiritual elements of darkness controlling those attitudes and thoughts. It is indeed a spiritual war; bring scripture and don’t take it personally if / when you are unable to ‘get through to them.’
Lord, I pray Your will in this; please lead this person according to Your purposes and glorify Yourself in and through them. Please give courage, strength, empowerment, guidance and the words to speak. Thanks and praise be unto Your name forever, Lord. Amen.
May God’s grace and peace be with you, always, Allie 🙂

January 25, 2021 at 9:07 amPrayers for you in your loneliness. And a little encouragement. Although I am not a “Trump supporter” persay, I did vote the Republican ticket. One of my favorite people and a close dear friend of mine voted the Biden ticket. I absolutely enjoyed our many conversations him & I shared about our viewpoints on different political topics such as healthcare, education, etc. Both him and I also have common interest in business and are healthcare practitioners. Anyway, my point is we both enjoyed listening, asking questions and although ultimately disagreed on end result (who got our vote), we wholeheartedly respected each others reasons for it. So basically my point is, we might not agree with everything about our friends. And we might not be able to reach a mutual understanding with everyone, however there ARE Christians out there who are willing to listen and love you. Being a Christian does not equal being a Republicans or Democrat. Love you, Sister. Have patience with your friends. Perception and reality sometimes are 2 different things. Dont give up on your church so soon, stay blessed!

January 25, 2021 at 9:22 amDon’t feel alone!!!!! 💜 Because you’re absolutely not alone. We may not be with you but you know who is always there with you, God!! 💜 I believe that God is control no matter who is president anyway. You’re not wrong for voting for Biden and you’re not right for voting for Biden. I didn’t vote but if I would have vote, I would have vote for Biden. Trumps heart is not who God calls us to be. I can’t judge him, only God can. But I believe that if there’s one single man that is bringing hate into a country, I could not for a split second give in to wanting him to run the country. Trump is dividing.. It’s not okay. And I know God agrees and sees that. Yes there are a lot of good things that Trump does and believes but I don’t believe that you’re not a Christian if you don’t Vote for Trump. Girl, you’re absolutely not alone!!! 💖❤️💖❤️🥰❤️💖❤️💖 Find another church, it’s okay to go somewhere else where you feel accepted because if that’s what a church makes you feel like, wrong & that they’re better than you, then that’s not a church. You can always stay there too and let God do his work 😉 and he’ll prove all of them wrong!!!!!!! Hehehe just let God do the work and you continue to be the Christian you are 💜💜💖

January 25, 2021 at 9:38 amHi Allie, You’re right. God loves everyone and is not politically bent. (See Joshua 5:13-14) I am so sorry you are experiencing other Christians acting unloving. There is a protocol God set for times such as this. Read Mathew 18 and do what God says. My heart breaks for you because I know first hand what it’s like to be hurt by the very people you love and trust and look to for guidance and community. Know you are not alone; we are standing with you along with the greats of the Bible who were wrongfully accused and mistreated by others including Joseph and Jesus. Keep being a Christian. Remember the only litmus test you have is Jesus as a standard with which to live by.
