September 7, 2023 at 12:24 pmDabber Family, please intercede on my behalf. My daughter has forbidden me to see her or her children for the last three months. We’ve had a very difficult time for the last year and a half, since her dad had a brief lapse in his sobriety, Although he immediately returned to his program, and is in recovery once more, he has been completely cut off from their family. I was allowed sporadic visits over the past year, but there was so much tension and resentment towards me that I dreaded having to see my own daughter. The implication was, I was “guilty by association”. Her demeanour toward me became more and more suspicious and angry, and my grandchildren- when I did see them appeared to be under a lot of emotional strain. Their behaviour had changed considerably to the point where I was actually frightened for them and their emotional health. My husband has not seen any of them for 15 months I made a huge mistake in June. Being desperately concerned for my daughter’s mental health (due to her erratic behaviour, falling weight and her history of suicidal ideation,) and because I was concerned for my grandchildren and the active alienation I was witnessing, I called social services to go in and do an assessment of them. Unfortunately, this isn’t what happened. instead, they initiated a full child protection investigation.I was DEVASTATED when I heard this. I heard through a family member that my daughter was hysterical forewing the visit, terrified that i was trying to have her children removed. Since then I’ve been forbidden to go anywhere near her or the grandchildren on threat of calling the police. Before my husband’s “slip” we saw these children almost daily for the last six years. I am without words to describe how my life has imploded in the last year and a half. I feel so ashamed for the mistake I made; i have been so stressed this year, having undergone three major surgeries during this time period. I’ve had no family supper as a result of my daughters position about her dad. I often go days without sleep. It was under such conditions that I made that impulsive decision 3 months ago. I write a heartfelt apology ABS Ahmed letter to my daughter but she has remained unwavering in her position. I’m fearful that my 5 grandchildren will grow up without me, that they’ll forget the beautiful relationships i had with each one them. They range in age from 5-12. My only granddaughter is starting grade one this year. I missed virtually all her kindergarten year already. All their special toys and the hundreds of books I’ve bought for them had to be moved to the basement because my heart breaks to look at them. I don’t understand why my daughter and her husband -who are Christian -have taken this stand! Please please, pray for reconciliation! Please pray for a softening of their hearts. Please pray that my daughter will understand that addiction is a disease, and this lapse was not a deliberate “thrill” despite the damage it caused the family. Please pray that I will make the right decisions on a day-to-day basis. This summer I initiated my plan to volunteer at my grandchildren’’s school as a reading assistant in the primary classrooms. My daughter doesn’t know this. I’m supposed to start later this month and I’m struggling with whether or not I should inform her( in writing of course) or if I should just go ahead as planned. I’m afraid that when she sees me at the school, she will interpret this as an attempt get close to the grandchildren. In truth that had very little to do with my decision to volunteer. Thank you Brian and the DAB family for hearing me and for praying for me; thank you from the bottom of my broken Nana heart.

September 7, 2023 at 6:27 pmDear Jesus, my heart is breaking for this grandmother. Our family too has struggled with the horrendous consequences of addiction, and the secrecy (and shame) that causes people to shut the door on those who could help. Please, Lord, help this daughter to stop worrying about appearances and “what others think.” We know that you are a God who welcomes, most of all, those who are imperfect, struggling, and looking for answers. You know that this grandmother was only trying to help in her human way. We know that you can turn “screw ups” into blessings, and even if the path isn’t straight, but zig zags, you always redirect us (like Mapquest). Please comfort this grandmother that it is the Holy Spirit, and not her personally, who will open the heart of her daughter, and that we lowly humans only have the faith of a mustard seed, but you can grow that.

I haven’t done anything wrong, the problem with s my daughter has untreated mental illness and is suffering. 7 years ago her husband end his life and then her mental state got extremely bad. She fled and no one knew where she and my granddaughter were for 21/2 years. We still don’t. We have no phone #, no address, no way to contact them. My granddaughter is now 7 years old. I wonder what she looks like. But God know just where they are! I will wait. I will cry. ▪️ I will wait on the Lord, my God. 🙏🏼 Thank you. In grief, GodsgalMN ❤️🩹 AKA – Lori

September 8, 2023 at 1:45 pmDear sister loridurhan11,
a word of encouragement, my bride and I have gone through a lot of what you discribe. It is heartbreaking to say the least, not be able to have relations with one’s own children and grandchildren. We experienced all the fears and anxiety, and feelings of guilt and utter hopelessness that goes along with broken relationships. At first we tried to intervene in ways that we thought would repair the bridges that once stood firm. Nothing we could do seemed to work to help mend the divide that separated all of us. It was extremely disappointing and frustrating not be able to budge them from their stance. So all we could do is pray, and pray some more. We ended up finally, giving the situation over to the LORD, and entrusted all of it to Him. Which by the way is what we should have done in the first place. — We live and we learn don’t we? Once we did, it turned out to be one of the better decision that we ever made. We decided after much prayer, to stay out of their lives only to communicate on birthdays and Christmas through cards and texts. Which many times weren’t reciprocated. Even though it was difficult, we stuck to our guns and stayed out of their affairs and continued to pray and thank the LORD that He was working on their hearts. — Years went by with this repeated process, until one day recently our son began to open up with his mom “my wonderful bride”, and the two of them started texting each other, and then we began receiving pictures of our grandchildren. The LORD was at work! He was answering our prayers and softening their hearts. Then one day recently, our son informed us that he was touched by the LORD while attending church last Christmas. HALLELUJAH! more conformation the our prayers were being answered. Now, our son texts more frequently than ever before, and at one point he ask his mother for forgiveness for all the times he was a disappointment to her. Here again, Holy Spirit 🕊 at work. — Bless the Name of JESUS! — So for right now, there’s an open line of communication again which we are extremely thankful for. And we believe that more walls are being destroyed, and that one day soon we will all get together again and be able to enjoy eachothers company like we should. — My word of encouragement is do not quit! and never give up praying and believing, because, God is working behind the scenes whether you see it or not, to repair and mend our broken relationships. And because He never sleeps, He’s at work 24/7. Glory 🌟 to God! He dose such a better job that we ever could. — Through this process, we had to learn how to be patient and allow the Holy Spirit 🕊 to do what He does best. I strongly believe that if you can release this burden into the LORD’S hands, and fully trust in Him to work it all out in His way and in His timing, you will see the desired results that your heart desperately yearns for. Take it from one whose been there. Allowing God to do things His way is freeing when you think about it. After all, He desires to be LORD over every aspect of our lives. Question is, will we allow Him to? It take a step of faith, to relinquish our grip and take our hands off of the situation, but once we commit to taking that step, God will rush in and restore our situation to better than it was before. I’m believing this for you. And declaring! it to be so Father, thank You for restoring this broken Nana’s heart to one of fullness of joy over her newly restored relationship with her children and beloved grandchildren…Asking these things,
in JESUS’ holy and matchless Name.
Amen!

September 9, 2023 at 11:56 amI’m praying for you and ask God to guide and lead you. There is love and concern for you in a group called Al-Anon, those effected by alcohol. Sometimes we enablers trying to fix everyone else’s problems become the biggest problem. God works in Al-Anon showing humility, grace and heals relationships showing others you are trying to mend and build relationships. Your daughter needs to trust you again and only truth, honesty and Gods hand will make that happen. LET GO and LET GOD. Bless you
