My youngest son 28, recently had a psychotic episode which caused him to believe that both himself and his children were in danger. According to the mother of his children he hadn’t been eating or sleeping for months and would constantly pace back and forth while mumbling to himself. He stopped going to work and no longer cared about his appearance. He doesn’t have a history of mental illness but is now believed to be suffering from Schizophrenia. On May 12th believing his son had been kidnapped he contacted the police but when they came to the house he refused to open the door and wouldn’t allow the mother of his children to open the door. Prior to the police showing up he had been pacing back and forth with a knife in his hand mumbling to himself. The police finally break down the door and ordered my son to drop the knife and being that he wasn’t in his right mind he would not drop the knife. The police called for more backup and eventually they were able to get the knife from him but claimed an officer was injured in the process. My son is currently in jail on a $150,000 bond and is being held in the mental health ward of the jail. Fast forward 6 weeks and He’s refusing medication and is said to be still experiencing hallucinations and delusions. For the past 6 weeks he’s been in isolation for 23 hours a day and isn’t allowed to have visitors. My son has 2 children ages 1 and a soon to be 3 year old. Prior to all of this he was a hardworking, loving and caring father and was the primary caretaker of the children. I pray that his mind is restored and that he is able to get the help he needs to deal with his mental health challenges. My son doesn’t belong in jail as this is all due to a mental health issue. I’m currently taking care of my soon to be 3 year old grandson full time while my daughter is taking care of my granddaughter which is her niece.
