November 4, 2021 at 1:11 pm11/3/21 5:52 pm UPDATE FROM HER ZOOM VISIT…
I’ve had a lot of Zoom meetings over the past year and a half.
That was the most enjoyable one by far (even if I did have to do all the talking).
Unfortunately, Walter’s video (but not his sound — I could still hear the ventilator) went off without warning before I was able to snag a picture (much better opportunity than through the window), so that was a bummer — but I had a great time being ‘in’ his room, anyway!
That poor, wonderful nurse is probably going to regret telling me 1) that I can Zoom whenever I want to and 2) that she’ll be there every day through Saturday.
It’s purely a case of not having to tell everything you know. (You might be sorry if you do that.) 😉Good news from TexasPrayers: 487Requests: 79
November 4, 2021 at 1:11 pmThursday, November 4 — Day 49/50 with Covid, Day 42 in the hospital, Day 34 in ICU, Day 10 with trach
Another bad day. They’ve gotten the complete results back from his bloodwork. Walter has both staphylococcus and staphylococcus aureus present, plus MRSA and enterobacter (that’s underlined in red on my screen, but how it’s written on the paper) growing in his sputum. They’ve said he’s “a very critically ill” man. They can’t use the strongest antibiotic that they’d normally use because he’s allergic to it; he’s on three others.
I asked them to put him on a scale comparing him to Tuesday (when we found out he was septic) and yesterday (when they told me he was stable). The main difference between today and yesterday is that now they know what’s growing in his bloodstream. They said he’s like he was Tuesday EXCEPT that he’s stable.
All of his vital signs are stable. His vent settings are stable. Those are the positives.
They’re removing the line from his neck and replacing it with IVs for a couple of days. They said that frequently, when something has been inserted into your body for a long time, it can be the source of infection. They’re hopeful that’s the case.
When they were comparing him to Tuesday, I came right out and asked if it was time for me to get the kids home. They said no, because he IS stable and because all of his vital signs are good — and because Walt has already proven to them that he fights hard.
When I got there, his vent settings were at 55/5 and his oxygen was 95, but it didn’t stay that way. They were preparing the lines in his arm so they could remove the one in his neck. While they were doing that, they suctioned him. After they suctioned him, his oxygen plummeted to 79. They turned his vent up to 100 for two minutes, and it went back to 93. After 2 minutes, the vent automatically went back to 55%. I finally decided to look away long enough to read his devotional to him — by the time I had finished reading the two paragraphs, it had fallen from 93 back to 79 again. I got the nurse and she turned the vent back to 100, and it went back. When I left, it was holding steady at 92. They said this frequently happens after suctioning and that I shouldn’t worry. (Too late for that!)
I’ll Zoom again today at 4:30.
Please pray that the infections in his bloodstream and in his lungs would clear up, that his lungs would soften, that the rest of his body would remain strong and healthy throughout this infection in his system, that he would test negative two days in a row (trying for Day 1 today — UPDATE — he did it!!!), for wisdom, direction, and rest on the part of his medical team, for the LTAC/hospital decision to be the best one for him, and for all of the other things I’m probably forgetting.
Thank you!GCOGAPrayers: 16710Requests: 1271
November 4, 2021 at 4:36 pmI continue to pray for Pastor Walt daily. After reading the Update today; it appears that we need to be praying more for strength for you. I just can imagine how drained shuttling between home and the hospital that can be. Our God is able to turn it around. I pray that his lungs will be clear from All infection. I also pray for Wisdom for his physician and medical team as they continue to treat him. I pray that they will have compassion and treat him with kindness. Praying continually in Jesus Name Amen 🙏 Gods Chosen One GA

November 5, 2021 at 12:41 pmThursday afternoon update — and an update to the update at the bottom — His vent is up to 85%8PEEP due to the infection level in his body. They’ve put him back on a paralytic to see if it will help his breathing. He got a negative Covid test today, but will likely not be moved out of the Covid unit with such a severe respiratory infection, even if he tests negative tomorrow. (I asked the nurse if they’d test him regardless in order to have two negative tests on record so he can move when he’s well enough — she said that depends on the doctor. They might, but they might not.) He is seriously, SERIOUSLY ill and at the moment is getting worse, not better. The doctor says that the Covid recovery is now secondary to the sepsis. Please pray for Walter. His body needs to respond to the antibiotics and beat this infection. **************************** Update — the paralytic didn’t help this time (it did help on Tuesday when he was so ill). They were hoping it would and they could put him back on a drip and let it work. His vital signs are still good, but he’s requiring too much oxygen through the vent, and there’s only so much they can give him. They can go up to 100% — he’s already at 85% — and PEEP can go up to 14 or so (he’s at 8 ), but they aren’t sure how high his lungs can handle due to the severity of their condition. The nurse said he could just be having a bad day and could bounce back — there’s really no way to know. They’re doing everything they can. ……………… Friday morning Around 8am…. The nurse just called. It appears that a lung is starting to collapse. They’re putting a chest tube in and hope that will help. His vent is up to 100% and his oxygen is 88. They wouldn’t be putting a chest tube in if they thought it was hopeless, but he’s doing much worse. Please pray for him.

Friday, November 5 — Day 50-51 with Covid, day 43 in the hospital, day 35 in ICU, day 11 with trach —
Just cutting and pasting what I’ve sent to family today. No energy to do more right now, but I want to update.
******
90%/5/93 when I arrived. 85%/5/91 when I left. Not stable, but loads better when I got there than when the nurse arrived this morning. She said she was very frightened for him when she got there. They have no reason to believe that the antibiotics are not working and are hopeful that they are. The high WBC count is likely due to the collapsed lung. I asked again about kids needing to come home and they said no and to give the chest tube a couple of days to do its job. He is responding to it so far. They told me that he has been sicker than he is at this moment on a few occasions, both on Tuesday and back when he was first admitted.Good news from TexasPrayers: 487Requests: 79

Another urgent prayer request!
Walter’s bloodwork from this afternoon shows that his CO2 levels in his blood are way past safe limits. The only way they can treat this is by turning his ventilator up to take more breaths per minute in the hopes that he can expel some of the CO2 and bring it down to a safer level. They will test it again tomorrow.
When we zoomed today, it took 2 1/2 hours before we were disconnected. I visited with him for a while and then found a a few songs I wanted him to hear before finding a playlist of music I know he likes. I let that go until we were disconnected. I can’t play music well over the walkie-talkie, but I can do plenty of talking. I figured he might prefer music since he doesn’t get to listen to it these days.
Please pray specifically that this plan works to reduce his CO2, and please continue to pray for his sepsis, his pneumonia, for soft lungs, for stability and health in his organs and bodily systems, for his ability to tolerate the necessary vent settings, and for wisdom, direction, and rest on the part of his medical team. Please pray that he gets an attentive nurse on Sunday — I’ve noticed it isn’t always the case on Sundays. He is very critically ill and needs all of these things to start improving NOW. We did hear from our insurance — it will cover the LTAC in Abilene when he’s ready to be discharged from here.

November 6, 2021 at 12:14 pmUPDATE AT 10:43 AM 11/6/2021 ………….. I’m outside his room. They have told me that he is failing and it’s time to get the kids home. My friend who accompanied me here today (as far as the waiting room) has been kind enough to call them all.
They’ve told me he likely has a day or two, possibly as long as a week. They say a miracle is still possible, but it would definitely require a miracle.
I will stay and watch him as long as I am able.
Please pray for Walt. Please pray for me. Please pray for our kids.
Thank you.I don’t usually check their Facebook page till after lunch when his precious bride has time to stop and write. Today is no different but things are changing quickly in the wrong direction for Pastor Walt. Please pray for that miracle but if it’s God’s will to take Pastor Walt home to him, then to uplift the family.

All the children have made it in. They don’t like to let whole families in at once, but when I explained that it’s been six years since we’ve all been together, they gave us two minutes and a photo op.
His body is in major failure now and they say he is very, very close to death.
Please pray for us.Good news from TexasPrayers: 487Requests: 79
November 7, 2021 at 12:25 pmFamily, Again, Thank you for holding this precious family before our Heavenly Father. 🙏🙏🙌🙌
Whatever God chooses to do, whatever way God chooses to go, Thank you all for your prayers! Thank you for holding this family before our Heavenly Father. I know God can still preform a miracle.
Our faith brings this before the Father and trust that our Lord Jesus Christ will take care of it. Prayer does change things!! Prayer has changed the family. Prayer has changed each of us. 🙏🙌
🙏 Whatever God Chooses, Do Not allow the enemy to put doubts into your mind that HE didn’t do what you wanted. Our Heavenly Father knew all these things before they ever happened.
Our prayers DID make a difference!! The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are listening and working on Pastor Walt’s behalf, In His Perfect Will.I sat under Pastor Walt’s teaching for several years. My mother and I found this church when Pastor Walt & his bride Lorna were at the beginnings of this rural community church. I watched as God provided people to come donate places for us to meet. Watched God provide businesses use their professional companies time, energy and supplies to build this little church. It was awesome to watch God at work, putting together a church from the ground – up. 🙌🙌 Watch what God can do with us when we become a willing vessel in HIS Mighty Hands.

November 7, 2021 at 4:47 pmWalt met Jesus face to face this afternoon at 12:27 Central time. I know that he is no longer suffering and that he is with his Savior. I know that he’s been reunited with Talitha, with our other babies we lost, and with so many friends and loved ones. ….. Please continue to pray for the kids and me. ….. This hurts more than I ever knew it was possible to hurt.
